There were lots of K Street moves and changes this week.
Perhaps the biggest of these was the formation of a new Democratic firm: Democracy Partners. The firm will handle political messaging, campaign planning and management, field programs, television and radio advertising, earned media, direct mail, website development, new media, research, nonprofit organizations, philanthropies, issue campaigns, voter registration drives, labor union campaigns, fundraising, grass-tops advocacy, staff recruitment and development, organizer training, phone operations, community organizing and voter contact programs, according to Politico.
Additionally, Edelman acquired Lombardo Consulting Group, and Steve Lombardo will serve as Global CEO of StrategyOne (the Edelman company he founded in 1999).
Tommy Thompson, former Secretary of Health and Human Services and potential Senate candidate, was elected chairman of the board of Stayhealthy, Inc., which offers personalized health measurement and assessment tools.
PHRMA, in an effort to reorganize, has let go four staff members: Ed Belkin, Kevin Barbour, Diedtra Henderson and Cindy Loose.

Stacey L. Douglas has been selected to assume the position of Executive Director at the Used Textbook Association (UTA) Board of Directors, effective March 1.
New Mexico Democrat and one-time presidential candidate Bill Richardson has been named as chairman of Global Political Strategies by APCO Worldwide.

John Engler is leaving the National Association of Manufacturers to become the president of the Business Roundtable.
Jay Timmons has been named president and CEO of the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM).
Marty Russo, chief executive at Cassidy & Associates, took a buyout Wednesday amid a staff shakeup at the lobbying firm.

Jackson Dunn, previously the associate director of public liaison for President Clinton, has been named to lead the public affairs practice at FD Americas.
Billy Piper, former chief of staff to Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), will join Fierce, Isakowitz & Blalock as a senior vice president in January.
Kimberly H. Colton, former deputy chief of staff to Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-R.I.), has joined the Sheridan Group as a senior policy and advocacy associate.
Lauri Hettinger, who until recently served as staff director for Sen. George Voinovich (R-Ohio), has joined Holland & Knight’s Washington office as a senior policy adviser in the firm’s public policy and regulation group.
Brett Loeper, the senior executive vice president at the Advanced Medical Technology Association, is leaving to be Rep. John Boehner’s (R-Ohio) policy director.

Charles Salem, chief of staff to Sen. Evan Bayh (D-Ind.), is joining Microsoft as managing director for public policy.
George Lowe, who spent four years serving as chief of staff to former Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), has joined Brown Rudnick’s Washington office as a partner. Lowe will work as a lobbyist in Brown Rudnick’s government law and strategies group

Coutney Geduldig, chief financial counsel to Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), is departing to be the managing director, head of federal government relations and chief counsel for Financial Services Forum.
Michael Quaranta, who until recently served as chief of staff to Rep. Michael Castle (R-Del.), has joined the Podesta Group as a partner.
Mary Streett, of Mayer Brown, has been named the Vice President of government affairs for Exelon Corporation.

John Feehery has been hired as a director at Quinn Gillespie & Associates. Feehery is the president of the Feehery Group and is the editor of the Feehery Theory blog. He was the executive vice president for global government affairs at the MPAA.
Cliff Rothenstein, who had formerly worked for the Federal Highway Administration and the EPA, has joined K&L Gates as a government affairs advisor.
Charlie B. Sewell has been named senior vice president and director of Hill & Knowlton’s public affairs practice. Sewell previously served as senior vice president of government affairs at the National Community Pharmacists Association.
Sarah Rittling has been named a senior policy adviser at EducationCounsel. She previous served as counsel to Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.).
Brooks A. Brunson was added as policy advisor in the government relations group at Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck LLP. He previously was the senior director of congressional affairs for Qwest.

Michael C. Obrock has been hired as a legislative associate with the federal relations office at the National Governors Association. Obrock was previously with the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
James A McGreevy III has been promoted to senior vice president for government affairs at the American Beverage Association.
John Fuller has left Van Scoyoc Associates to work for Capitol Decisions, Inc.

Matt Thornblad has been hired as director of energy and environmental government affairs at United Technologies Corp. Thornblad previously served as legislative assistant to Sen. Tim Johnson (D-S.D.).
Jonathan Prince has been hired as partner at Chlopak, Leonard, Schechter & Associates. Prince most recently served in the Obama administration as a deputy assistant secretary of State.
Wendy Kirchoff has been named director of federal resources and legislative affairs at the Independent Petroleum Association of America. Kirchoff previously served as legislative director for Rep. Dan Boren (D-Okla.).
Elizabeth Gore, a former top aide to Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.), has been hired by Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck as a policy director in its government relations group.

Melissa Crow, former acting deputy assistant secretary for policy at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, is the new director of the American Immigration Council’s Legal Action Center.
Galen Reser, the chief lobbyist for PepsiCo in their DC office, will be replaced by Elizabeth Avery, Pepsi’s current VP of global public policy and government affairs. Reser was a part of Pepsi’s D.C. operations for over 19 years.
Jay B. Perron has been named government programs executive for IBM. Jay previously served as Washington political director for Representative Roy Blunt (R-Mo.). Previously he worked for Valente and Associates, and most recently consulted for political affairs firm PRIsm Information Network.
Jim Eltringham has been named vice president of The Advocacy Group Inc.
Francesca Tedesco has left Pfizer to be vice president of APCO Worldwide’s health care team in Washington

He also worked as senior manager of government relations at the National Electrical Manufacturers Association, and as a legislative aide to Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania (D-Pa.).
Miller B. Girvin has been hired as vice president for communications for The Hawthorn Group LC, an international public affairs firm. Girvin served as a senior policy associate and lobbyist for Capitol Management Initiatives LLC. Before that, she worked as a policy assistant for Speaker of the House J. Dennis Hastert, R-Ill. (1987-2007).
Fruzsina M. Harsanyi is joining the Public Affairs Council as a senior adviser.
Greg Crist has been hired as vice president of public affairs at the American Health Care Association.

David Sanders has joined the National Community Pharmacists Association as director of federal government relations. Sanders was director of federal government affairs for Teva Pharmaceuticals. He has also worked on legislative issues for former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.) and Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.).
Melissa Dodson Schooley has been hired as senior director of government affairs at MedTronic Inc., a medical technology company. Schooley was previously head of government affairs for Coventry Health Care. She has also served as a fellow for the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Oversight and the Courts.

Ashley Patterson has been hired as director of government relations at Ameresco. Patterson was press secretary for Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas).
Deborah Lee James has been promoted to executive vice president for communications and government affairs at SAIC.
